Content of this course:

This DOB-Online training course focuses mainly on the aerodynamics of wind turbines. Our expert teachers will explain how wind can be used as a powerful power source. First, the concept of wind will be introduced and further explained in the very first lecture. This will be followed by an in-depth technical lecture on how wind can be captured to drive a generator. Main technical design parameters for a wind turbine, such as the power coefficient and the power curve, will be discussed as well.  Then, during an interactive practical case, you will learn how to calculate the energy yield of a wind turbine, using the knowledge previously learned during the lectures. The training course will conclude with a lecture where the main parameters and numbers used in the offshore wind industry will be explained, such as Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE), CAPEX and OPEX, as well as an overview of the European market.

Connecting Modules

In addition to the DOB-Online training course Wind Essentials, we offer three other DOB-Online training courses concerning other aspects of offshore wind, which are complementary to this training course: Introduction to Electricity and Power Generation, Introduction to Offshore Wind Support Structures and Basic Installation, O&M and Future Technologies.

Together, these four training courses are equivalent to the regular (physical) training course Introduction Offshore Wind, and will provide a complete overview of the entire offshore wind industry and its playing field.

Learning objectives:

  • Comprehend what wind is and how aerodynamics plays an important role in the generation of electricity
  • Put the knowledge gained directly into practice during a realistic case
  • Become acquainted with important figures, trends and statistics in the offshore wind industry
  • Expand your offshore wind knowledge in just half a day

Target audience:

This training course has been developed for professionals working in the offshore wind industry for 0-3 years with a BSc diploma or a higher education. It is also very suitable for professionals with 5 years of relevant experience in similar industries. The ‘Wind Essentials’ training course enables junior technology specialists who work in a single competence field to obtain an overview of other (technical) disciplines of the offshore wind industry. Furthermore, generalists from a banking, insurance and environmental background who successfully complete this training course gain valuable insights into the technology behind offshore wind.
